Tesla Seeks UK Energy Market Entry with ’Tesla Electric’ Power Supply Plan
Elon Musk's Tesla has taken a concrete step toward entering the UK energy market, filing an application with regulator Ofgem to supply electricity to households. The July 25 submission, signed by executive Andrew Payne, could see 'Tesla Electric' launch as early as 2025—marking a strategic expansion beyond electric vehicles and battery systems.
The initiative builds on Tesla's existing infrastructure, leveraging Powerwall installations and its network of 250,000 UK-registered EVs. Like its Texas energy program, the UK model may offer discounted charging rates and compensate customers for feeding surplus solar or battery power back to the grid. Vehicle-to-home technology trials could further integrate Tesla's ecosystem, though competitors are advancing similar solutions.
